John Cowper Powys
On this day in 1872 the great novelist and eccentric John Cowper Powys
was born. Although born in England he considered himself to be of Welsh
origin. He lived and taught in America for 30 years before returning to
Britain to live in Corwen andf Blaenau Ffestiniog in North Wales. He
considered moving to North Wales to be a "hiraeth" or homecoming and
wrote two important historical novels set in Wales ( 'Owen Glendower"
and "Porius" ) during this period. John Cowper Powys died in 1963.
