Robin Huw Bowen ![]() Robin Huw
Bowen, whose magnificent new album "The Road To Aberystwyth" is
pictured above, is coming to the United Sates early next year. He will
be appearing on the West Coast and we will post details of dates and
venues as soon as they are released. Hopefully he will come to
Portland. Anyone
wishing to acquaint themselves with the man and his work could do no
better ( other than buying the cd of course ) than checking out this link to a superb live performance
he gave at the Kennedy Centre (Washington D.C.) in 2001.
The lyrical beauty of this instrument in the hands of a master like Robert Huw Bowen has to heard to be beleived. From the opening notes of Helfa'r Draenog (The Hedgehog Hunt) through to the album's closing moments the performance is captivating and intoxicating throughout. "Welsh folk is known for a variety of instrumental and vocal styles, as well as more recent singer-songwriters drawing on folk traditions. The most traditional of Welsh instruments is the harp. The triple harp (telyn deires, "three-row harp") is a particularly distinctive tradition: it has three rows of strings, with every semitone separately represented, while modern concert harps use a pedal system to change key by stopping the relevant strings. It has been popularised through the efforts of Nansi Richards, Llio Rhydderch and Robin Huw Bowen. Below are some further Robin Huw Bowen links. LINKS 1. Crasdant.com 2. Welshfolkdance.org 3.
